Independently benchmarked

Measured against Deepnest, not just claimed

We ran Lapas Core v1.1 head to head against Deepnest on 37 nesting cases: same parts, same plates, same time budgets, then scored every result with an independent program that reads the output geometry. On the standard density tests Lapas left 13.9% of the plate as offcut against Deepnest's 26.7%, and on real jobs it fits the same parts on fewer plates. Fewer plates means lower material spend on every run.

How it works

From file to cut-ready in under a minute

If you can upload a file, you can use Lapas.

01

Upload your parts

Drop in your DXF or SVG. Set how many of each part you need.

AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, FreeCAD: all supported.

Lapas upload page with drag-and-drop zone, uploaded DXF part thumbnails, and quantity inputs.
02

Set your sheet size

Enter sheet dimensions, kerf width, pick a nesting engine.

Multiple sheets, rotation rules, and grain direction supported.

Prepare job page with part quantities, nesting engine selection, and sheet size inputs.
03

Get your cutting layout

Download DXF or PDF report. Ready for the machine or your customer.

See sheets needed, utilization %, and part placement.

Nesting results with a finished sheet layout at 83% utilization, statistics, and DXF export.

Lapas doesn't replace your CAM. It hands back a nested DXF. Lead-ins, kerf compensation, and cut sequencing stay in the tools you use today. If your machine reads DXF, it works with Lapas.

The problem

Sheets are expensive. Waste doesn't have to be.

20–30% wasted

of every sheet goes in the scrap bin. At $4k/month in steel, that's up to $1,200 thrown away.

3–8 hrs/day

your best operator spends laying out parts by hand instead of running the machine.

$5k–20k /year

for SigmaNEST, ProNest, Lantek. Built for factories, not small shops.

Manual layout ~58%
34 parts placed by hand in simple rows by their bounding box, leaving large gaps and almost a third of the sheet unused
Same parts, with Lapas ~86%
The same 34 parts nested true-shape by Lapas, interlocked tightly to fill the sheet with minimal waste

Features

Everything your shop needs. Nothing it doesn't.

Not a bloated CAM suite. Just a nesting engine that works.

Core

True-shape nesting

Parts pack by their real shape, not bounding boxes. Curves, arcs, and irregular shapes fit tight.

Fast or precise

Two nesting engines

Quick mode for fast estimates. Deep mode for maximum savings. Pick per job.

Real-time

Live nesting preview

Watch parts drop onto the sheet in real time. See utilization climb as it runs.

DXF & SVG import

Works with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, FreeCAD - upload and nest in one step.

DXF · PDF export

Machine-ready DXF output in one click. PDF reports for quoting customers.

Runs in your browser

No download. No IT. Windows, Mac, Linux, tablet - all work.

From the founder

"I build nesting algorithms for a living, and I kept hearing the same thing from small shops: the good nesting software costs more than the laser's monthly payment, and the free tools are abandoned. Lapas is my answer - a serious nesting engine at a price a three-person shop can justify. Try it on your own files and email me what's missing. I read every message."

FAQ

Questions before you sign up

Short answers to the things people ask most.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

No credit card, no trial period - just sign up and go. You get the full nesting engine, no part limit, and both DXF and PDF export. The only cap is 5 new projects a month; re-nesting a project you already started is unlimited. If you need more than five new projects a month, Pro is $39/month billed annually.

What counts against the 5 free projects?

Only starting a brand new project. Once a project exists you can re-run it, change spacing, swap sheet sizes, and re-nest it as many times as you want without using another one. Most shops evaluating Lapas never hit the limit in their first month.

Where does Lapas fit in my workflow?

Between your CAD and your CAM. You export flat parts as DXF from CAD, Lapas arranges them on the sheet, and you take the nested DXF into your existing CAM software - which still handles lead-ins, kerf compensation, and cut sequencing exactly as it does today. Nothing about your machine setup changes.

What happens to my DXF files?

They stay yours. Files are transferred over encrypted HTTPS, processed to compute the layout, and never shared with anyone or used for anything else. You can delete your files and your account at any time.

Will it work with my DXF files?

Almost certainly. Lapas reads DXF files from AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, FreeCAD, and all standard CAD tools. It handles LWPOLYLINE, CIRCLE, ARC, SPLINE, and nested INSERT/BLOCK entities. SVG is also supported.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Lapas runs in your browser. No download, no IT. Works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and shop-floor tablets.

How much material will I save?

Most shops see 15–30% better utilization vs. manual nesting. Typical results vary by job type and current method. Try the ROI calculator above to estimate your savings - or better, run one of your own jobs through the free plan and compare.

What machines does it work with?

Compatible with most CNC cutters: fiber/CO₂/diode lasers, plasma, waterjet, CNC routers, knife cutters. Export your nested layout as DXF - compatible with virtually all CAM software and controllers.

How is it different from Deepnest?

Deepnest is a free desktop tool that hasn't been updated since 2021. Lapas is browser-based, actively maintained, handles DXF natively, has live preview, and exports to DXF and PDF - with real human support.
