What happens in the video

Four steps, no edits

  1. 01

    A DXF goes in

One file dropped onto the upload page. Lapas reads it and reports what it found, including a warning that a text layer looks like it is set to cut when it probably should not be.

  2. 02

    Layers get sorted

Seven layers are auto-handled. Cut, engrave or ignore is set per layer, so the outer profile cuts and the annotation layers do not.

  3. 03

    The plate is set

26 parts on a 48 x 96 inch plate. Border spacing and nesting quality are set here, along with the rotation step.

  4. 04

    The engine runs

The estimate going in is 3 plates. The nest comes back on 2.

The plate count is what the engine returned on this file. Your own result depends on your parts: see the measured benchmark for how Lapas performs across 37 cases, ties included.

About this demo

Questions about what you just watched

How long is the demo?
One minute 28 seconds, start to finish, with no cuts or speed-ups in the nesting step.
Is that a real file or a prepared demo?
A real customer-style DXF with 26 parts, imperfect layers and all. The warning you see about a text layer being set to cut is the software catching a genuine problem in the file, not a scripted moment.
What does "10 seconds" refer to?
The nesting run itself. The whole video is longer because it also shows the upload, the layer handling and the plate setup around it.
Do I need to install anything to try this?
No. Lapas runs in the browser on Windows, macOS, Linux and tablets. The free plan needs no credit card.

Want the longer version in writing? The post on manual adjustment covers what the automatic nest does not do, using this same job as the example.

Don't take our word for it.

Upload one of your own DXF files and see the layout yourself. It's free and takes about two minutes.
