Nesting software that works with Global Shop Solutions
If you already have a Global Shop Solutions nesting integration, this page will tell you to keep it. If you do not, and nesting is a manual step today, there is a simpler answer.
Read this first
Lapas does not integrate with Global Shop Solutions. There is no connector, no API link and nothing to install.
This one matters more than usual. Global Shop Solutions does not nest internally; it builds integrations to external nesting software, per customer, and those run bidirectionally: job requirements out, then remnant drop parts and nesting labour time back into the job detail. Lapas cannot do that. It has no connector, and it does not write remnants or labour time back to anything. If you already have that integration working, Lapas is a downgrade and you should keep what you have.
How the handoff actually works
Who does what, in order. Nothing here requires either system to know the other exists.
- 1 You Export the part geometry from your CAD
DXF out of SolidWorks, Fusion, AutoCAD or whatever feeds your jobs. Explode blocks before export; block references are the single most common reason a DXF imports empty anywhere.
- 2 You Upload to Lapas and set the sheet
Quantities per part, sheet size, kerf at your measured cut width, and minimum spacing. None of this reads from Global Shop Solutions, so it is entered per job.
- 3 Lapas Nest and read the numbers off
True-shape nesting on the real outlines. The result gives you sheet count and utilization per sheet, which are the two numbers you need to cost the job.
- 4 Lapas Export DXF and the PDF report
DXF for the CAM step, PDF for quoting and the shop floor. Both on the free plan.
- 5 You Key the numbers into Global Shop Solutions yourself
This is the honest weak point. Material usage, sheet count and time go in by hand. A built GSS integration does this automatically and also creates remnant drop parts. Lapas does neither.

What stays manual
- Everything between the two systems. There is no export, no import and no sync.
- Creating remnant drop parts in Global Shop Solutions after a nest.
- Reporting nesting labour time back to the job detail.
- Material and sheet selection, which Lapas does not read from your GSS inventory.
- Traceability from the nest back to individual work orders.
When Lapas is the wrong tool here
- You already run a Global Shop Solutions nesting integration. Keep it. Lapas removes the automation you paid for.
- You need per-work-order cost traceability rather than an average cost across the nest. That is precisely what the GSS integration exists to give you.
- You need remnant inventory maintained automatically.
- You need validated machine post-processors. Lapas exports DXF; G-code is beta and unvalidated across controllers.
Common questions
No. Global Shop Solutions builds nesting integrations for its customers individually, and those run in both directions: job requirements out, remnant drop parts and nesting labour time back. Lapas has no connector and cannot feed anything back. This is a file-based workflow with manual data entry at the end.
When nesting is already manual. Plenty of shops run GSS for scheduling, inventory and costing while the actual nesting happens in whatever tool the laser operator prefers, or by eye. If that is you, this replaces the eyeballing, not the ERP. If you have the integration, it does not.
No. Lapas reports what is left on the sheet, but it does not create inventory records anywhere. Remnant tracking stays in Global Shop Solutions and stays manual unless you have the integration.
It costs nothing to find out. The free plan covers 5 new projects a month with unlimited re-nests, so you can run a real job through it and compare the sheet count against what you get today. If the layout is not better, you have lost twenty minutes.
We have not built one and are not going to claim a timeline. If you run GSS and this workflow is close but the manual step is the blocker, tell us what your integration passes and we will at least give you a straight answer about whether it is on the roadmap.
Other stacks: all ERP and MES workflows. Measured nesting results: the benchmark.
