Nesting software that works with JobBOSS²

JobBOSS² already groups your laser and plasma jobs for nesting. What it does not do is nest them. If you have not bought a nesting integration, that step is manual today, and this is how to make it a fast manual step.

Read this first

Lapas does not integrate with JobBOSS². There is no connector, no API link and nothing to install.

JobBOSS² does have a nesting integration product, which synchronises plate and sheet stock between systems and pushes laser, plasma and waterjet jobs into a nesting application by due date, work centre and material thickness. Lapas is not part of it. There is no API connector and no flat-file exchange. If you already run that integration, it does more than this workflow does and you should keep it. This page is for shops that have not bought it, where nesting is a manual step regardless of which tool does it. Note that JobBOSS² is ECI's combined platform for the former E2 Shop and JobBOSS products, so this applies if you came here looking for E2 Shop.

How the handoff actually works

Who does what, in order. Nothing here requires either system to know the other exists.

  1. 1 JobBOSS² Group the jobs in JobBOSS²

    The Job Grouping Utility collects jobs that share a routing step or work centre, which is the batching decision that matters. Filter by material and thickness so a group is actually nestable on one sheet.

  2. 2 You Pull the part geometry

    DXF from wherever your part files live, CAD or the job attachments. JobBOSS² will not hand Lapas a package the way an integrated nester receives one.

  3. 3 You Upload to Lapas and set the sheet

    Quantities per part, sheet size, kerf at your measured cut width. None of this reads from JobBOSS² stock records, so material selection stays your decision.

  4. 4 Lapas Nest the group

    True-shape nesting on the real outlines, across multiple sheets if the group needs it. No cap on parts per job, so a large grouped batch is just a bigger upload.

  5. 5 Lapas Export DXF and the PDF report

    DXF for the CAM step. The PDF report gives sheet count and utilization per sheet, which are the numbers you need for job costing.

  6. 6 You Enter the numbers back into JobBOSS²

    Material consumed and sheet count go in by hand. The paid integration writes these back and keeps plate stock in sync. This workflow does not.

What stays manual

  • Getting part files out of JobBOSS² and into Lapas.
  • Plate and sheet stock synchronisation, which the paid integration handles.
  • Writing material consumption and sheet counts back to the job.
  • Remnant tracking after the nest.
  • Choosing which grouped jobs actually go on one sheet.

When Lapas is the wrong tool here

  • You already run the JobBOSS² nesting integration. It syncs stock and pushes jobs automatically; this does neither.
  • You need plate stock in JobBOSS² to stay accurate without anyone typing.
  • You nest many times a day, where two manual file steps per nest add up fast.
  • You need validated machine post-processors. Lapas exports DXF; G-code is beta and unvalidated across controllers.

Common questions

Does Lapas integrate with JobBOSS²?

No. JobBOSS² offers a nesting integration that synchronises sheet stock and feeds jobs to a nesting application automatically, and Lapas is not one of the supported providers. There is no API connector and no flat-file exchange. This is a manual file workflow.

I use E2 Shop. Does this page apply?

Yes. JobBOSS² is ECI’s combined platform built from the former E2 Shop and JobBOSS products, which is why there is no separate E2 page here.

What does the Job Grouping Utility change?

It does the useful half of the work. Grouping jobs by shared routing step or work centre is the decision that determines whether a sheet is worth running. Once a group exists, nesting it in Lapas is one upload rather than several.

Is Lapas free?

There is a free plan with no credit card and no expiry: 5 new projects a month, unlimited re-nests of any project you have already started, no cap on parts per job, and the full engine. DXF export and the PDF report are included. Pro is $49 a month.

Should I just buy the nesting integration instead?

If you nest daily and plate stock accuracy matters to your costing, probably yes, and we would rather say so. The integration removes exactly the manual steps this workflow keeps. Lapas is the better answer when nesting is occasional, when you are checking whether better nesting is worth anything before committing budget, or when the integration is not in this year’s spend.
