Nesting software that works with Paperless Parts
Paperless Parts already nests. It does it to price a job, not to produce the file the machine cuts. Whether you need anything else depends entirely on which of those you were asking about.
Read this first
Lapas does not integrate with Paperless Parts. There is no connector, no API link and nothing to install.
There is no connector, but that is the smaller point here. Paperless Parts has nesting built in: it flags parts eligible for nesting, groups compatible material and thickness, and takes grain direction and edge buffer as inputs, and they position it as removing the need for a separate nesting licence. If your question was how to price a nested sheet metal job accurately, they have answered it and you do not need Lapas for that. Read the next section before assuming otherwise.
How the handoff actually works
Who does what, in order. Nothing here requires either system to know the other exists.
- 1 Paperless Parts Paperless Parts nests for the quote
It predicts shared cutting patterns across compatible parts and prices raw material and labour from that. This is an estimating nest, and for quoting it is the right tool because it is attached to the pricing model.
- 2 You The job is won and has to be cut
This is where the two diverge. A quoting nest exists to produce a number. A production nest exists to produce geometry a machine can run, at your real kerf, with your real spacing and your actual sheet stock.
- 3 You Bring the DXF into Lapas
Same part files, plus whatever else is going on the sheet that was never part of that quote. Real jobs are rarely nested exactly as quoted.
- 4 Lapas Nest for the cut
True-shape nesting at your measured kerf and spacing, across multiple sheets, with no cap on parts per job so several orders can share a plate.
- 5 Lapas Export the nested DXF
Into your CAM to post. The PDF report gives the sheet count you can reconcile against what was quoted, which is the useful loop back to Paperless Parts.

What stays manual
- Moving files between the two. There is no connector in either direction.
- Reconciling the quoted nest against the produced nest.
- Everything Paperless Parts does around quoting, which Lapas does not touch.
- ERP posting, which Paperless Parts already handles through its own integrations.
When Lapas is the wrong tool here
- You only need accurate quoting. Paperless Parts nests for exactly that and it is already in your stack.
- You want one system for quote and cut. This is two systems and two file moves.
- You need the unfold-and-vectorize front end for pricing. Lapas does neither; it takes DXF and SVG.
- You need validated post-processors. Lapas exports DXF; G-code is beta and unvalidated across controllers.
Common questions
Often you would not, and that is the honest answer. The case for a second tool is narrow: their nesting is built to price a job, so it optimises toward a defensible cost. A production nest has to hit your real kerf, your real part spacing and the sheets actually on the rack, and it usually includes work from other orders that was never in that quote. If your quoting nest and your cutting nest are the same thing, you are done.
No. Paperless Parts has a documented API and integrations with a large number of ERP systems, but Lapas is not one of them and there is no connector in either direction.
No. Lapas reports sheet count and utilization; it has no pricing model, no labour rates and no quoting workflow. Comparing the two on quoting would not be a fair fight and we would lose it.
Yes, and that is the most useful thing this pairing does. Nest a job as it will actually be cut and compare the plate count with what was quoted. A consistent gap tells you something about the estimating assumptions.
